A Derry Journal reporter’s review of a film starring Hollywood actor, Ray Winstone, has been included on the front cover of the DVD.
Andrew Quinn writes a weekly movie review column called ‘At the Movies’, for both The Sunday Journal and the Derry Journal website.
‘Ashes’ had its Irish premiere on the opening night of last year’s Foyle Film Festival in November and Andrew gave the film a four out of five star rating.
“I was contacted by the people in charge of distributing the film and they asked me if they could use my four star review and put it on the cover of the DVD,” said Andrew.
“I was delighted they’d picked up on the review but I never thought that my four star rating would appear on the front cover - I am over the moon.”
‘Ashes’ is directed by Mat Whitecross and stars both Ray Winstone and Jim Burgess.
Winstone plays a man suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and Burgess plays his son.
“It was a remarkable film and it was made even better because I got to meet and talk with both Ray Winstone and Mat Whitecross afterwards,” said Andrew.
Andrew is a life-long movie fan and his weekly review has proved to be a bug success online.
In recent weeks he was contacted by an online entertainment website based in Melbourne, Australia and was asked if they could use his review of the movie ‘Lincoln’.
“I owe a lot of the success of my cinema column to the internet.
“People want to know if a film is worth going to see before they hand over their hard earned money and I suppose many of them take to the internet to find out.
“I am delighted with the way things are going and when you enjoy watching movies as much as I do it feels more like a hobby than work.”
