Thursday: Piers Morgan’s Life Stories; (ITV, 9pm)

Speaking to Piers on Good Morning Britain after recording this edition of the in-depth interview show, its subject, The Only Way Is Essex star Gemma Collins, said how nervous she was about it airing – because, she says, she has really “spilled the beans on a lot of things that people haven’t heard before”.

Among them will be a fresh insight into her much-publicised on-again off-again relationship with James ‘Arg’ Argent, including his struggles with cocaine addiction as well as, she reveals, the times that she had to call emergency services when his drug use started to get out of control.

A series insider revealed that “It was an emotional rollercoaster and Gemma opened up to him about deeply personal subjects, including how toxic her relationship with Arg had become and some exes who were abusive to her”.

The former TOWIE icon also reveals her painful journey towards potentially having children, after suffering her third miscarriage last year, in an intimate and heartfelt interview that Piers himself has described as “very emotional … very inspiring as well”.

Prior to her small-screen fame Gemma was a used car seller, so it comes as no surprise that she has capitalised on her image and become a businesswoman, setting up her own reality franchise named Diva.

This too is something she is likely to be pressed on during the interview.

Collins told the GMB host – whom she’s used to gently sparring with on the breakfast show – “Do you know what, Piers? I want to thank you for that. It was very cathartic,” adding “It was a real accolade to my career, you inviting me on”.

Indeed she joins the likes of Cliff Richard, Sir Elton John, Dame Joan Collins (no relation, although Gemma’s mother is also called Joan), Caitlyn Jenner, Vinnie Jones, Pamela Anderson and Mel B.

In fact, with some 18 series of the talk show under his belt, Piers has built up quite the CV of A-list celebrity interviewees, so ‘The GC’ is in fine company.

In September last year Captain Sir Tom Moore, a national treasure thanks to his epic fundraising efforts for the NHS, was interviewed on Life Stories, with a visibly moved Piers – not to mention the viewers at home – hanging on every word of his stories from the war.

Gemma’s interview will appeal to a different set of viewers, with fans of reality TV doubtless very keen to hear what she has to say.

This of course contributes to the series’ longevity and Piers’ success at the helm – an interviewer for all seasons. Or 18 of them and counting, anyway.

Also appearing opposite the former Daily Mirror editor and ‘king of conversation’ in this series are award-winning actor Rupert Everett, daytime telly legend Trisha Goddard, singer and Loose Women panellist Coleen Nolan, and former world champion boxer Chris Eubank – Piers, of course, pulling no punches as usual.
