'Brexit is not the problem' at ports, says DUP MP Gregory Campbell who blames the Irish protocol
Brexit is not to blame for the supply and transit issues being experienced at ports in the north, according to DUP MP Gregory Campbell.
The East Derry MP said the Northern Ireland Protocol was generating delays at Irish ports in the north.
"Brexit is not the problem. The problem is the implementation of the Protocol," said the DUP veteran.
Speaking in the British House of Commons this afternoon he asked the British Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster Michael Gove, Boris Johnson's point man on Brexit, if he would visit the ports 'to see the problems at first hand and then try and get a resolution that everyone can move forward in better security than they have in the past few weeks'.
Mr. Gove replied: "We do need to make sure we have granular information on the ground. We're working with ministers on the Northern Ireland Executive and with businesses in NI to do that and I will visit NI at the earliest safe opportunity."
