Locally based company Foyle DAB LTD is delighted to announce that they have secured Northern Ireland’s first Small Scale Radio Multiplex licence from OFCOM.

When the service is up and running, it will provide a platform for licenced stations to have access to the DAB network in order to broadcast their service. This will enhance the radio coverage in the North West.

Richard Moore of FOYLE DAB said: "The fact that we have a successful community radio station in the city, Drive 105, has helped significantly in securing this Small Scale Multiplex licence. I am grateful to all the hard working volunteers and dedicated listeners at Drive 105 for proving that Community Radio is a very important service in this area.

"This was never more evident than during the recent pandemic. The Small Scale DAB network will help community radio stations like Drive 105, reach a greater audience. I am also grateful to the local commercial radio station, the Q network for their enthusiasm and support with this application.

"Quite a number of licenced community radio stations from throughout Northern Ireland and further afield have expressed an interest in being on the network and were also extremely supportive in the application process. Finally, we are grateful to VIAMUX as without their technical expertise, it simply wouldn’t have been possible.

"Once the network is up and running, listeners can look forward to a wider, more varied choice of community radio stations which can only be a good thing for the North West."
