Former Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre in Derry’s Waterside on market for £1m

The former Lisnagelvin Leisure Centre in Derry’s Waterside has been placed back on the market with a guide price of £1m.

The substantial site on a prime location at the corner of Lisnagelvin Road and Richill Park was released for development by Derry City & Strabane District Council in 2020.

Following a tender process the local authority announced a preferred bidder had been appointed back in January 2024.

However, the building housing the former swimming pool, famed for its wave machine, and the 2.75 acres of land on which it is set are now on the market again for £1m.

Estate agents Lambert Hampton Smith state: “The site benefits from excellent dual frontage onto Lisnagelvin Road to the south and Richill Park to the east.

"Originally opening in 1980, the former leisure centre closed in 2015 following a relocation to the Foyle Arena in St. Columb’ s Park with the property being vacant since.

"The existing building is situated in the north west corner of the site and occupies approximately 18 per cent of the overall site area.”

The land is currently unzoned with LHS advising that it ‘represents an excellent redevelopment opportunity on a busy arterial route for a range of potential uses, subject to planning permission’.
