Planning application submitted for outdoor seating area at the Ice Wharf

The W&R Group has applied for permission to provide a new outdoor seating area at the Ice Wharf premises in Derry city centre.

An application to remove the existing glazed frontage of the public house has been submitted to Derry City and Strabane District Council and is listed as under consideration.

The proposal is to provide a ‘new recessed glazed front and external seating area’ at the licensed premises at 22-24 Strand Road.

The W&R Group, which also runs The Corner Bar in Limavady, acquired the Ice Wharf after the Wetherspoons group vacated the premises a number of years ago.

It was formerly the location of the Trinity Hotel back in the 1990s and has been used as a public house by a number of owners since then.

Drawings submitted as part of the fresh planning application show the outdoor seating will be located on a new paved surface lined with timber planters to the front of the existing lounge bar. A new glass screen will be erected between the bar and the outdoor area, if the plans are approved.
