Derry med school moves another step closer

A multi-million pound medical training school for Derry has moved another step closer.
NI’s deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill has today confirmed that the Executive Office (TEO) is to now take the lead on progressing the Graduate Entry Medical School at Ulster University’s Magee campus.

A multi-million pound medical training school for Derry has moved another step closer.
NI’s deputy First Minister Michelle O’Neill has today confirmed that the Executive Office (TEO) is to now take the lead on progressing the Graduate Entry Medical School at Ulster University’s Magee campus.

Plans to train doctors at the Magee campus have, to date, been beset by delays and funding problems.

However, more than £200m in new funding announced earlier this week for projects in the north west - including the medical school - has radically transformed the situation.

Today’s move means that the medical school project now requires final sign off by Michelle O’Neill and First Minister Arlene Foster who have both publicly committed to delivering it.
