Mullan urges Weir to visit Derry’s three gaelscoileanna to meet leaders

Sinn Féin MLA Karen Mullan wants Education Minister Peter Weir to visit Derry’s three gaelscoileanna to hear from school leaders about their accommodation needs.

“It’s unacceptable that children attending Derry’s three Irish Medium primary schools, Gaelscoil Éadain Mhóir, Gaelscoil Na Daróige and Bunscoil Cholmcille, are studying in temporary accommodation, some for as long as 30 years. DE is fully aware of the needs of these schools and as an MLA, I have facilitated many meetings with officials on site. I am calling on the Minister to publish a timeline of plans to progress the Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta area planning recommendations and to visit the three gaelscoileanna to see first-hand the conditions in which they are studying,” she said.

Meanwhile, Ms. Mullan has met with Comhairle na Gaelscolaíochta at Carn Tóchair

“We discussed the increasing demand for Irish Medium Education, the pressures arising as a result of that demand and also the level of investment required over the next number of years to support and maintain this growth.”
