11 more COVID-19 admissions at Altnagelvin with no ICU beds free

Eleven more people were admitted to Altnagelvin with coronavirus over the weekend, according to figures released by the Department of Health on Monday afternoon.

Between Friday and Monday, four women and seven men, were taken into the hospital after becoming ill following a positive SARS-CoV-2 test.

Four were aged 60-69, there were two patients each among the 50-59, 60-69 and 70-79 age cohorts, and one patient was aged between 40 and 49.

In terms of general occupancy 16.85 per cent of beds at Altnagelvin are 'COVID-19 occupied', 78.09 per cent are 'other occupied' and the hospital is operating at 100 per cent capacity: 5.06 per cent are 'awaiting admission' according to the latest data.

Six of eleven (54.55%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin are being used to treat COVID-19 patients; five (45.45%) are occupied by patients with other conditions, and there are no free, staffed ICU beds at the hospital.

Three ICU patients in total are being ventilated - one is a COVID-19 patient and two are non-COVID-19 patients.

In total 88 people were being treated as confirmed coronavirus inpatients in Western Trust hospitals at midnight on Sunday.
