146 COVID-19 related deaths in Derry and Strabane

There were 146 COVID-19 related deaths in Derry and Strabane from the start of the pandemic to the end of last week, according to the latest figures published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

Twelve more people died in Derry and Strabane after testing positive with coronavirus in the week to Friday, January 15.

This amounted to 31 per cent of the 39 deaths that occurred in the local area that week.

Three of the 12 COVID-19 related deaths occurred in local care homes.

For all Covid-19 related deaths since the start of the pandemic, those with an address in Belfast accounted for 460 (21.6%) of the 2,129 deaths registered up to January 15, 2021. Fermanagh and Omagh had the fewest COVID-19 related deaths registered over the same period.

Overall, 2,186 Covid-19 related deaths had occurred by January 15, 156 of which occurred in the week ending January 15.

Thursday, January 7, and Monday, January 11 saw the greatest number of COVID-19 deaths (28) occurring in a single day, exceeding the previous daily record of 25.
