21 people now being treated for COVID-19 in Western Trust hospitals after series of admissions

Twenty-one people were being treated for COVID-19 in Western Trust hospitals at midnight yesterday, according to the latest data released by the Department of Health.

It's the highest number of COVID-19 inpatients since April.

Thirteen people have been admitted to local hospitals since the weekend - 11 to Altnagelvin and two to the South West Acute Hospital.

Six of these 13 patients were aged between 40 and 59 and one of those was discharged from Altnagelvin on Saturday.

Three were aged between 60 and 79 while four were aged over 80.

Over the past seven days 876 people in Derry and Strabane tested positive for coronavirus with the rate per 100,000 now up to 581.4.

More people caught the illness between September 29 and October 5 (876) than between the start of the pandemic and last Monday, September 28 (819).

The total number of cases more than doubled from 891 last Tuesday, September 29, to 1,813 yesterday.
