40 COVID-19 related deaths in Derry and Strabane according to NISRA weekly bulletin

There were forty COVID-19 related deaths in Derry and Strabane in the calendar year to the end of last week, according to the latest figures published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

In the week to Friday, October 23, there were 42 deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate were registered across the north as a whole accounting for 10.7% of all deaths in that week and bringing the total number of Covid-19 related deaths registered in calendar year 2020 to 972.

According to the NISRA bulletin: "In the calendar year to October 23, males and females accounted for similar proportions of all deaths registered (males: 49.6%, females: 50.4%) and Covid-19 related deaths registered (males: 50.8%; female: 49.2%).

"In the calendar year to 23rd October, the 75 years and over age-group accounted for two-thirds (64.8%) of all deaths and four-fifths (78.5%) of Covid-19 related deaths.

"For Covid-19 related deaths, those with an address in Belfast LGD accounted for 269 (27.7%) of the 972 deaths registered in the calendar year to October 23."

Almost a third (32.7%) of all deaths in week 42 were classified as ‘respiratory’ (128). All Covid-19 related deaths were included in this classification.
