There were 99 COVID-19 related deaths registered in Derry and Strabane in the calendar year to the end of last week, according to the latest figures published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA).

That's 8.6 per cent of the 1139 deaths from all causes in the Derry and Strabane area this year. There were six COVID-19 related deaths registered in Derry /Strabane in total in week 48

Across the north in general in the week to Friday, December 4, there were 98 deaths mentioning Covid-19 on the death certificate registered. This accounted for 25.3% of all deaths in that week and brings the total number of Covid-19 related deaths registered in calendar year 2020 to 1,480.

According to the NISRA bulletin: "In the calendar year to December 4 males and females accounted for similar proportions of all deaths registered (males: 49.7%, females: 50.3%) and Covid-19 related deaths registered (males: 49.9%; female: 50.1%).

"In the calendar year to 4th December, the 75 years and over age-group accounted for almost two-thirds (65.1%) of all deaths and four-fifths (77.4%) of Covid-19 related deaths.

"For Covid-19 related deaths, those with an address in Belfast LGD accounted for 370 (25.0%) of the 1,480 deaths registered in the calendar year to December 4.
