Altnagelvin has 1.19% capacity left as number of Western Trust COVID-19 patients falls to lowest level since Christmas

A man in his fifties was admitted to Altnagelvin with coronavirus yesterday as the number of COVID-19 patients being treated in Western Trust hospitals fell to its lowest level since Christmas.

Two men, one aged between 20 and 39 and the other in his fifties, were also admitted to the South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen yesterday.

At midnight on Tuesday 84 patients were being treated as coronavirus patients in Western Trust hospitals.

Whilst still an extremely high number this is as low as the figure has been since Christmas Day when the number of SARS-CoV-2 infections in Derry and Strabane started to rise exponentially as the third wave of the illness took hold.

Six of 14 (42.86%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; three (21.43%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and five (35.71%) were free.

Five ICU patients in total were being ventilated - three were COVID-19 patients and two were non-COVID-19 patients.

In terms of general occupancy 14.84% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 77.45% were ‘other occupied’ and the hospital had 1.19% capacity left in the system: 6.53% were ‘awaiting admission.’
