Altnagelvin has 6.08% capacity left with fewest WHSCT COVID-19 patients since mid-December

Two men, one in his 50s and another in his 60s, were admitted to the hospital on Wednesday. The man in his 50s was discharged on the same day.

At midnight on Wednesday 81 patients were being treated as coronavirus patients in Western Trust hospitals.

The figure, though still very high, is nonetheless the lowest number of COVID-19 inpatients recorded in local hospitals since December 17.

Seven of 15 (46.67%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; three (20%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and five (33.33%) were free.

Seven ICU patients in total were being ventilated - five were COVID-19 patients and two were non-COVID-19 patients.

In terms of general occupancy 13.81% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 77.62% were ‘other occupied’ and the hospital had 6.08% capacity left in the system: 2.49% were ‘awaiting admission.’
