Another death recorded in Derry and Strabane due to COVID-19

Another person has sadly died after testing positive for COVID-19 in Derry and Strabane, according to the latest daily data published by the Department for Health.

Fifty people were being treated for COVID-19 in Western Trust hospitals at midnight. That's more than at any time during the first wave in April.

The death of a woman, aged over 80, yesterday in the Derry and Strabane area brings to 26 the total number of people who have died with the illness locally since the pandemic began.

The seven day COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 people in Derry and Strabane rose slighty from 870.1 to 892 yesterday after a decline between Tuesday and Wednesday.

In total 3,908 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane since the pandemic began.

Between October 9 and October 15, 1,344 people tested positive in the Derry and Strabane area.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between October 15 and October 16 was 258.
