Castlederg (BT81) COVID-19 rate is highest in the north while rate of decline in BT48 and BT47 slows to standstill

The prevalence of coronavirus in the BT48 and BT47 postal districts fell slightly over the past seven days but the rate of decline has slowed to a near standstill.

Between November 23 and November 29 the case rate in BT48, which covers the west bank, was down to 187.7 per 100,000 people with 114 cases registered during the week.

This was down from case rates of 194.3 per 100,000 a week ago, 217.4 a fortnight ago, 283.2 per 100,000 three weeks ago, 398.5 per 100,000 four weeks ago, 691.6 per 100,000 five weeks ago, and 1,155.9 per 100,000 six weeks ago.

The rate of decline has slowed significantly.

In BT47, covering the Waterside and the east bank of the Foyle as far as Dungiven, the rate has decreased but not by much.

Between November 23 and November 29 the case rate in BT47 was 214.8 per 100,000 people with 132 cases registered during the week.

This was down from 232.7 per 100,000 people last week and from 216.4 per 100,000 a fortnight ago. It was higher than case rates of 275 per 100,000 three weeks ago, 364.5 per 100,000 four weeks ago, 595.5 per 100,000 five weeks ago, and 997.4 per 100,000 six weeks ago.

According to the weekly breakdown by post code, which is published each Monday by the Department of Health, the Castlederg area (BT81) now has the highest COVID-19 prevalence rate in the north.

Over the week there were 31 cases giving a rate of 394.4.

In Strabane (BT82) there were 42 cases giving a prevalence rate of 156.7 over the seven days.
