Coronavirus NI: 6,708 people test positive in NI in last seven days - two additional deaths recorded in 24 hours

The total number of infections in the last seven days increased significantly on Friday when the Department of Health reported 1,299 new infections in the last 24 hours.

The total number of infections detected in the last seven days equates to 26.6 per cent of all Covid-19 infections identified in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic in March.

The DoH also reported two additional Covid-19 related deaths in a hospital setting in the last 24 hours.

The two people to die were a man and a woman in the Derry City and Strabane District Council and Belfast City Council areas.

One of the deceased was aged between 60 and 70 while the other person was 80 years-old or older.

The number of inpatients with Covid-19 increased by 12 to 213 in 24 hours.

In total, there have been 183 hospital admissions across Northern Ireland over the last seven days at 326 admissions over the last 14 days.

Two additional patients with Covid-19 have been admitted to intensive care in the last 24 hours taking the total across Northern Ireland to 26.

Three more patients needed ventilator treatment in the last 24 hours, taking the total to 20.

Northern Ireland has 104 intensive care unit beds - 26 beds are occupied by patients with Covid-19; 57 beds are occupied with non-Covid-19 patients - this leaves 21 unoccupied beds available across Northern Ireland.
