Coronavirus NI: Fears grow as 21 more inpatients with COVID-19 in last 24 hours

A huge spike in the number of inpatients with COVID-19 has occurred in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours, according to the Department of Health (DoH)

The number of people in hospital with COVID-19 jumped from 64 on Monday to 85 on Tuesday.

The DoH also recorded one new death and 669 new infections in the last 24 hours.

The most recent death was that of a man aged between 60 and 79 in the Mid Ulster council area.

The total number of people to die after testing positive for COVID-19 since the beginning of the pandemic now stands at 585.

The latest statistical report from DoH also reveals that 4,005 individuals have tested positive for COVID-19 in Northern Ireland in the last seven days.

There are 13 patients across Northern Ireland currently receiving treatment for COVID-19 in intensive care units.
