Five Covid-19 related deaths in last 24 hours - daily infection rate continues to drop

The Department of Health (DoH) recorded an additional five Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours.

The total number of Covid related deaths since the beginning of the pandemic is now 2,041.

Four of the people to sadly pass away were aged between 60-79 and one was 80 or older.

The five new deaths occurred in the following local council areas: Belfast (one), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (three) and Ards (one).

All five deaths occurred in a hospital setting - one of the people to die was female and four were male.

The DoH also recorded an additional 225 new infections however it is also the first time in months the total number of cases recorded in the last seven day period dipped to below 2,000 (1,929).

There are 376 inpatients with Covid-19 in hospitals across Northern Ireland - this is 10 fewer inpatients than yesterday.

There are currently 134 intensive care unit (ICU) beds in Northern Ireland; 48 occupied by patients with Covid-19; 64 non-Covid-19 and 22 are unoccupied.

Hospital bed capacity throughout all of Northern Ireland is currently at 99 per cent.
