NI Covid-19 death-toll surges to 1,414 as 20 people die in 24 hours

The Department of Health (DoH) has reported 20 Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland in the 24 hours to 10.00am on Friday morning.

The DoH define a Covid-19 related death as one that occurs within 28 days of anyone testing positive for the virus.

The 20 deaths occurred in 10 out of 11 local government districts (LGD) - the only LGD not to record an increase was Causeway Coast and Glens.

Thirteen of the people to die were male and seven were female.

Fifteen of those who sadly passed away were aged 80 or older and five were aged between 60-79.

The Northern Ireland deathtoll is now 1,414 since the pandemic started in March.

The DoH also recorded a further 1,500 new infections - taking the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic to 86,146.
