NI Covid-19 death-toll surges to 825 after 15 deaths recorded in last 24 hours

The number of Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland has surged to 825 after the Department of Health (DoH) recorded 15 coronavirus related deaths in the last 24 hours.

Eleven of the 15 deaths actually occurred within the last 24 hours - the remaining four deaths occurred outside this time frame but were officially recorded for the first time within the 24 hours to 10.00am on Thursday.

The death occurred in the following local government districts: Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (three); Antrim and Newtownabbey (one); Lisburn and Castlereagh (two); Derry City and Strabane (two); Mid and East Antrim (two); Ards (one) and Fermanagh and Omagh (four).

The DoH also recorded an additional 548 new infections in the last 24 hours.

This is significantly less than the figure reported 24 hours ago when DoH confirmed 791 new cases of Covid-19.

It also means 3,835 individuals have tested positive for Covid-19 in the last seven days - the total number of infections since the beginning of the pandemic is currently 45,241.

The total number of patients in hospitals throughout Northern Ireland remains high at 435.

Of 137 intensive care unit beds in Northern Ireland, 46 are occupied by patients with Covid-19 and 26 are unoccupied.

Altnagelvin Area Hospital; the Antrim Hospital; Causeway Hospital; the Mater Hospital; the Royal Victoria Hospital, the South West Acute Hospital and the Ulster Hospital are all operating a various levels of over capacity.

The Northern Ireland-wide figure for all hospitals is at 101 per cent over capacity.
