One 20-39 year-old patient dies after testing positve for Covid-19 - 70 with coronavirus in ICU

The Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed what is only Northern Ireland’s fourth Covid-19 related death in an individual under the age of 39.

It is not known if the patient had any underlying health conditions.

In the last 24 hours the DoH recorded an additional 24 Covid-19 related deaths.

Seven of the deaths occurred outside this time frame and 17 occurred within the 24 hours to 10.00am on Tuesday.

DoH defines a Covid-19 related death as a death having occurred in individual within 28 days of testing positive for Covid-19.

One of the people to die was aged between 20-39; five were aged between 60-79 and 18 were 80 or older.

Nine of those to pass away were male and 15 were female.

The DoH also confirmed 713 new infections had been detected in the last 24 hours.

It means the total number of individuals to test positive in the last seven days and since the beginning of the pandemic are 6,092 and 96,714 respectively.

There has also been an increase of 19 in the number of patients in hospital with Covid-19 - the total number of inpatients now 842.

Five more patients have been admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU), taking the total number of Covid-19 patients occupying the 149 available ICU beds to 70.

There are 43 patients with non-Covid-19 conditions occupying ICU beds and the remaining 36 are currently unoccupied.

Four hospitals are operating at varying levels of bed capacity: Antrim Area Hospital; Causeway Hospital; Royal Victoria and South West Acute Hospital - across the Northern Ireland hospital bed capacity is currently 97 per cent.
