Pfizer’s Covid-19 vaccination prevents 90% of infections - study finds

American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and German biotech firm BioNTech have said early data shows their Covid-19 vaccination provides 90 per cent protection.

The data was published on Monday morning and suggests it could provide 90 per cent protection to those who have not tested positive for Covid-19.

The news has been labelled as the most positive development concerning a Covid-19 vaccination since the beginning of the pandemic.

The findings are based on an interim analysis conducted after 94 participants contracted Covid-19.

If the data continues to support this finding then it’s possible a vaccine could be run out before the end of the year.

“This is about the best the news could possibly be for the world and for the United States and for public health,” said William Gruber, Pfizer senior vice president for vaccine clinical research and development.
