The Mindset Junkie: There is a lock on your potential and the key is belief

What is belief?

Beliefs are essentially judgements and evaluations about ourselves and others, and the world around us.

Belief is at the core of our thoughts, words and actions. Are your beliefs your own? Possibly not, in fact I’d say most definitely not!

We have inherited the vast majority and also been conditioned to believe in so many others. Was it the shifting of continental plates caused the earthquake, or was it God's wrath?

No human had ever run a mile in four minutes so nobody ever tried. Why? Because it was believed to be impossible - it simply couldn’t be done. That was until Roger Banister did it and then that same feat was repeated the world over soon after.

Why is it important to have faith and belief in yourself now more than ever? What the world is experiencing right now can create so much change and uncertainty, especially with business closures, the change of life and circumstances we all find ourselves in. The threat of the virus and more.

But now more than ever we need to have strong faith and a belief in ourselves and each other in order to come out of this stronger.

Our beliefs will create the action steps we take each day that will either have us feeling empowered or disempowered.

If we can all cultivate more belief in our own potential and resilience right now, then we can all come out of the other side of this in a much more positive way.

Controlling our input in terms of what we are allowing our minds to be influenced by right now can make a big impact on how we think, feel and perform.

How do we create those changes within ourselves that can then help impact others in a more positive way? Awareness!

The more aware we are of our thoughts, the stories we tell ourselves and our behaviours, the better prepared we are in course correcting. Imagine observing your thoughts, not being attached to them. Imagine observing your habits and behaviours, but not being critical of them. Watching how we think and perform without being attached.

When we start to raise that level of awareness we can begin to see what is serving us right now and what isn’t. That's the first step in sowing the seeds of change.

If we feel that something isn’t progressing how we want, you can be sure that it’s tied to a certain belief we have around it but we can change that and now more than ever, having more belief in ourselves is vital.

Once we identify and work on changing that belief we look at things differently, our perception changes and our habitual way of doing things will too.

The action we take will be different and so too will the outcome.

So to wrap this up I’d ask you to question what beliefs you have about yourself right now - something that's possibly holding you back.

If you changed that belief, how different would things be for you? What has shown up on your life to validate those beliefs? And do they have merit? Are they true?

So many times they are not true, but we let them stop us so many times from feeling and being who we truly want. There is a lock on your potential but the key is belief!
