Two men die in Belfast after testing positive for COVID-19 - 259 new infections identified in 24 hours

Two men over the age of 60 have died in hospitals in the Belfast City Council area after testing positive for COVID-19, the Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed.

One of the men was aged between 60 and 79 while the other man was 80 years-old or over.

The two deaths take Northern Ireland’s total COVID-19 death-toll to 581.

The DoH has also reported 259 new infections in the last 24 hours - this takes the total number of new coronavirus cases in the last seven days to 1,979.

Three people with COVID-19 have been admitted to hospital in the last 24 hours - the total number of people in hospital is currently 70.

Eighty-four people across Northern Ireland have been admitted to hospital with COVID-19 in the last 14 days - there have been 65 people discharged from hospital for the same period of time.
