Two people aged 40-59 die after testing positive for Covid-19 in last 24 hours - Hospital bed capacity under 100% for first time in weeks

Twelve additional Covid-19 related deaths have been recorded in Northern Ireland in the last 24 hours, the Department of Health (DoH) has confirmed.

The Covid-19 death-toll in Northern Ireland according to DoH now stands at 913.

A death is recorded as Covid-19 related if the individual passes away within 28 days of testing positive for the virus.

Nine of the deaths occurred in hospital; two in residential/care homes and one in the community.

Two of the deaths recorded in the last 24 hours were in people aged 40-59 - it is not known if they had underlying health conditions.

The total number of Covid-19 related deaths in Northern Ireland since the beginning of the pandemic in people aged 40-59 now stands at 39.

Another five deaths occurred in people aged 60-79 and a further five deaths were also recorded in people aged 80 or older.

Nine of those to sadly pass away were male while the remaining three were female.

It takes the total number of deaths by gender to 481 males; 431 females and one unknown.

The latest data from the DoH also shows a significant drop in new infections to 369 and the total number of infections over the last seven days has also come down considerably to 3,230.

The total number of individuals to test positive for Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic is now 49,085.

The number of patients in hospital with Covid-19 has decreased by nine in the last 24 hours to 447.

There was also welcome news on the hospital bed capacity front with, for the first time in weeks, the health service in Northern Ireland dropping below 100 per cent capacity to 99 per cent.

There are currently 124 intensive care unit (ICU) beds available throughout Northern Ireland.

Of these 124, 38 are occupied by Covid-19 patients; 58 by non-Covid patients and 28 are unoccupied.
