COVID-19 declines in Derry's Waterside (BT47) but spikes on cityside (BT48) where it is as high as six weeks ago

The prevalence of coronavirus has spiked in the cityside of Derry while the rate in the Waterside has fallen, according to a breakdown of COVID-19 rates by post code area.

Between December 14 and December 20 the case rate in BT48, which covers the west bank of the River Foyle, was up to 302.3 per 100,000 people with 184 cases registered during the week.

This was up from case rates of 157.7 last week, 187.3 per 100,000 a fortnight ago, 187.7 per 100,000 three weeks ago, 194.3 per 100,000 four weeks ago, 217.4 five weeks ago and 283.2 per 100,000 six weeks ago. It was lower than the figures of 398.5 per 100,000 seven weeks ago, 691.6 per 100,000 eight weeks ago, and 1,155.9 per 100,000 nine weeks ago, when the Department of Health started providing a breakdown by postal area.

In BT47, the Waterside and its rural hinterland to Dungiven, the coronavirus rate has dipped..

Between December 14 and December 20 the case rate in BT47 was 221.4 per 200,000 with 137 cases recorded during the week.

This was down from case rates of 274.8 per 100,000 people last week and 260.2 per 100,000 a fortnight ago.

It was higher than 214.8 per 100,000 people three weeks ago, lower than 232.7 per 100,000 people four weeks ago, higher than 216.4 per 100,000 five weeks ago and much lower than 275 per 100,000 six weeks ago, 364.5 per 100,000 seven weeks ago, 595.5 per 100,000 eight weeks ago, and 997.4 per 100,000 nine weeks ago.

In Strabane (BT82), between December 14 and December 20, there were 30 cases giving a prevalence rate of 111.6 over the seven days.

In the Castlederg area (BT81) the case rate was 88.7 per 100,000 people with 7 cases registered during the week.
