COVID-19 rate falls sharply in Derry but rises in Strabane and Castlederg

The prevalence of coronavirus has fallen sharply in both the cityside and Waterside in Derry but it has been rising in the Strabane and Castlederg areas.

Between February 8 and February 14 there were 20 SARS-CoV-2 cases on the cityside (BT48) giving a rate per 100,000 of 32.9. This was less than half the figure of 70.7 per 100,000 for the February 1 to February 7 period recorded last Monday.

In the BT47 postal area which covers the Waterside to Dungiven there were 45 positive tests over the same weekly period giving a rate per 100,000 of 72.7, down sharply on the figure of 116.4 reported last week.

In Strabane (BT82) there were 48 cases giving a prevalence rate of 178.5 per 100,000, an increase from 145 last week. In the Castlederg area (BT81) the case rate was 139.4 per 100,000 with 11 cases registered during the week. That's over five times the rate of 25.3 recorded in the west Tyrone district last Monday.
