COVID-19 rate halved in BT48 and BT47

The prevalence of coronavirus halved in both the cityside and Waterside last week according to the weekly breakdown of COVID-19 rates by post code area.

Between January 11 and January 17 there were 142 positive SARS-CoV-2 cases on the cityside (BT48) giving a rate per 100,000 of 233.3. This was less than half the rate of 524.2 per 100,000 recorded over the weekly period January 4 to January 10.

In the BT47 postal area which covers the Waterside and the surrounding countryside as far as Dungiven there were 143 positive tests over the same weekly period giving a rate per 100,000 of 231.1. This was just over half the rate of 446.1 recorded the week previously.

In Strabane (BT82) there were 45 cases giving a prevalence rate of 167.3 per 100,000, down from 260.3 last week. In the Castlederg area (BT81) the case rate was 316.9 per 100,000 with 25 cases registered during the week, slightly above the 291.5 per 100,000 figure posted last week.

The top five worst affected post code areas in the north were BT68, which is centred on the village of Caledon on the Tyrone, Armagh and Monaghan border (900 per 100,000); the neighbouring BT60, which covers central and south Armagh below Armagh City (785.4 per 100,000); BT35, encompassing South Armagh as far as Newry and the County Down border (777.6 per 100,000); the BT65 area of Craigavon (763.6 per 100,000); and BT62, including Portadown and the strip of country running north from Tandragee to Lough Neagh.

Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon continues to post the highest rate by district in the north.
