COVID-19 rate rockets in Derry/Strabane over Christmas and is highest in the north

The seven-day COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 in Derry and Strabane has rocketed over Christmas, is once again the highest in the north, and well above the average for the six counties.

Between December 22 and December 28, there were 619 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 410.8.

That's as high as it has been since late October.

The last comparable seven day period for which data is available was the period between December 16 and December 22, when there were 344 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 228.3.

The seven day rate per 100,000 for the north as a whole is now 302.2.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between December 22 and December 28 was 141.

In total 8428 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
