Derry and Strabane posts highest weekly rate of COVID-19 in the north with weekend figures revised upwards

The latest data from the Department of Health shows Derry and Strabane posted the highest rolling seven day case rate for COVID-19 in the north over the past week.

The figures, released on Tuesday, show that the seven day rate of positive coronavirus tests was 85.6 per 100,000 between September 15 and 21.

That was higher than Belfast which posted a 72.7 rate over the same week period.

The new statistics show there have been 129 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane over the seven days and data for the weekend has been revised upwards.

It was previously reported that there were 28 positive cases in Derry and Strabane on Saturday but that's now risen to 35.

There were a further 25 positive cases on Sunday and 13 yesterday.

The new details show a further person was admitted to Altnagelvin Hospital on Sunday. The patient was aged between 60 and 79.

Last week a younger patient was admitted on Monday and discharged on Wednesday.

One of the 129 people to have contracted the illness over the past week in Derry and Strabane was in the vulnerable over 80 category.

Seven were aged 60 to 79 while the remainder were aged 40-59 (37), 20-39 (67) and 0-19 (17).
