Derry COVID-19 positivity rises again to 8.7% and is highest in the north

Derry City and Strabane District Council recorded the highest COVID-19 positivity rate in the north last week, according to the Public Health Agency's Weekly Epidemiological Bulletin published yesterday.

The highest positivity occurred in Derry and Strabane (8.7%). The north's proportion positive in week 15 was 3.49%, a slight increase from 3.47% in week 13. This is lower than the peak positivity of 26.4% reported across the north in week 53 (December 27, 2020 – January 3, 2021).

The case rates increased in Derry and Strabane, Lisburn and Castlereagh, Mid and East Antrim and Mid Ulster in week 15 compared to week 14.

Case rates remained the same in Belfast and decreased in all other areas. Derry and Strabane had the highest rate in week 15 compared to other Local Government Districts (111.7 per 100,000 population). The overall rate in the north increased from 35.9 to 39.1 per 100,000 population between weeks 14 and 15.
