Derry COVID-19 rate at lowest level in five months as total number of positive cases breaches 11,000 mark

The seven-day coronavirus rate in Derry and Strabane has fallen to 71 cases per 100,000 people and is now third lowest in the north.

Between February 11 and February 17, there were 107 confirmed positive cases of the virus in the district giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 71, down from 76.3 yesterday.

The last time it was lower was five months ago on September 18 when the rate was 63.7.

Derry/Strabane is now recording the third lowest coronavirus rate in the north. The lowest rates are in Fermanagh and Omagh (51.4) and Ards and North Down (58.4).

Rates are higher in Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (197.5), Mid Ulster (192.5), Belfast (107), Antrim and Newtownabbey (90.4), Mid and East Antrim (88), Lisburn and Castlereagh (81.3), Newry, Mourne and Down (74.4) and Causeway Coast and Glens (72.8).

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between February 16 and February 17 was 12.

In total 11,007 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
