Derry COVID-19 rate of 90.3 per 100k as low as it has been in 132 days

The seven-day coronavirus rate in Derry and Strabane remains below 100 cases per 100,000 and is now as low as it has been in 132 days.

Between January 25 and January 31, there were 136 confirmed positive cases of the virus in the district giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 90.3, down from 98.2 yesterday.

The last time it was lower than this was on September 22, when the rate was 85.6.

Attempts to suppress the virus after the second wave of infections in the autumn never succeeded in getting it down below 100 per 100,000 in Derry/Strabane.

Derry/Strabane is still recording the lowest coronavirus rate in the six counties after Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (343.5), Mid Ulster (326.7), Newry, Mourne and Down (210.3), Antrim and Newtownabbey (173.1), Mid and East Antrim (167.4), Belfast (181.4), Fermanagh and Omagh (166.2), Causeway Coast and Glens (137.9), Ards and North Down (130.5) and Lisburn and Castlereagh (126.1).

The average prevalence rate for the north over the same seven day period was 196, down from 202.5 per 100,000 yesterday.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 30 and 31 was seven.

In total 10.691 people have tested positive in Derry and Strabane since the start of the pandemic last year.
