Colr. Tierney was among those who attended a meeting of Party Leaders today at the Guildhall today to take a decision on whether to cancel the parades in Derry and Strabane.

“Unfortunately, given the spread of coronavirus and growing concern amongst the public, I believe that as a precaution, postponing the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations is the responsible thing for us to do.

“This decision was not taken lightly. We have taken advice and engaged with the Public Health Agency and other health officials in advance of this decision.

“While this decision is very disappointing, as local representatives, we must prioritise protecting the health and well-being of citizens.”
