Derry/Strabane coronavirus rate drops again as district breaches 10,000 positive cases

The seven-day coronavirus case rate per 100,000 dropped in Derry/Strabane again on Monday for the eighth day running, according to data released this afternoon by the Department of Health.

Between January 4 and January 10, there were 720 confirmed positive cases giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 424.1, down from 477.9 on Sunday.

There were no more recorded deaths in Derry/Strabane, according to the latest daily update.

The rate locally is below the average for the north which has also fallen and is now 509.7 per 100,000, compared with 556.3 per 100,000.on Sunday.

Rates are higher in Newry, Mourne and Down (732), Mid Ulster (700.9), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (666.9), Antrim and Newtownabbey (541.1), Mid and East Antrim (471.1), Fermanagh and Omagh (451.9) and Belfast (443.7). Just three districts have lower incidence of the disease than Derry/Strabane.

The local COVID-19 prevalence rate is still far higher than the figure of 228.3 per 100,000 that was recorded on Wednesday, December 23. The rate quickly trebled after this date two to three weeks after coronavirus restrictions were temporarily eased and the economy opened up from December 11.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 8 and 9 was 54.

In total 10,052 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
