Derry/Strabane COVID-19 case rate drops below 400 per 100,000 for first time in a month

The seven-day case rate for coronavirus in Derry and Strabane has dropped below 400 per 100,000 for the first time since the start of October.

According to the latest daily data published by the Department of Health there were 589 positive tests between October 23 and October 29 giving an incidence rate of 390.9.

Not since the seven days September 24 to September 31 when there were 486 positive cases and the case rate was 322.6 has it been lower.

Derry and Strabane still has the second highest rate of coronavirus in the north.

In Mid Ulster there were 675 positive tests giving a seven day rate of 457.6, the highest in the north for the fourth day running.

Rates are now decreasing uniformly week-on-week although the most marked decrease has been in Derry and Strabane.

For example, last Friday the case rate per 100,000 people was 606.6. It is now down to 390.9.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between October 28 and October 29 was 71.

In total 5419 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane since the health crisis began in the spring.
