Derry/Strabane COVID-19 case rate plummets to lowest point in two months albeit with small amount of test data for Monday

The seven-day COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 in Derry and Strabane has dropped sharply and is now at its lowest point in two months, according to the latest data from the Department of Health.

After a two week period during which no real decline in coronavirus prevalence was recorded locally the rate plummeted on Tuesday.

However, there was a marked drop in the number of tests results returned for Monday in the daily figures. According to the latest information the DoH had only received data from 64 tests in Derry/Strabane for Monday which is a fraction of what is usual.

Yet taking the figures available, between November 17 and November 23, there were 282 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 187.2 which was down from 223 on Monday.

Mid Ulster continues to post the highest seven day case rate in the north at 194.5.

Derry/Strabane still has the second highest prevalence rate but it is now as low as it has been since September 25 (160.6 per 100,000).

The average rate in the six counties is 130.3 per 100,000 with several districts recording figures lower than 100: Lisburn and Castlereagh (87.5); Newry, Mourne and Down (82.7); and Ards and North Down (67.1).

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between November 22 and November 23 was 8.

In total 6,623 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
