Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate drops again and is close to the average for the north

The seven-day case rate of COVID-19 per 100,000 people in Derry and Strabane fell again on Thursday and is now inching closer to the average for the north.

Between November 5 and November 11, 322 people tested positive in the Derry and Strabane area giving a case rate per 100,000 of 213.7.

This is the lowest point the prevalence rate has been since late September. The average across the north is 203.8.

The Causeway Coast and Glens rate (325.1) has surged this week and is now higher than the rates in Derry (213.7) and Mid Ulster (258.3).

Over the past two weeks the rapid decline that had been taking place in Derry and Strabane from mid October onwards began to slow.

Last week the decline in the seven day rolling figure stalled and even marginally increased over a number of days.

The decline resumed over the weekend but stalled again in the middle of the week.

The drop from 246.2 per 100,000 to 213.7 per 100,000 between Wednesday and Thursday is a welcome development.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between November 10 and November 11 was 25.

In total 6,112 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
