Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate falls marginally for second day but remains fourth highest in the north

The seven-day case rate per 100,000 has fallen marginally in Derry/Strabane for the second consecutive day, according to the latest Department of Health figures.

Between December 29 and January 4, 1,106 cases were recorded across the Derry and Strabane council area giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 734.1.

The equivalent seven-day rate on Monday was 738 cases per 100,000 people while on Sunday it was 744 cases per 100,000 people.

Thus, in real terms, it has remained static over the past two days after more than trebling over the Christmas and New Year period.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 3 and January 4 was 117.

In total 9,526 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.

No more coronavirus deaths were reported in Derry and Strabane this afternoon.

Eighty-five people were being treated as confirmed COVID-19 patients in Western Trust hospitals at midnight on Monday.

Altnagelvin currently has 2.33 per cent capacity left in the system.

In terms of general occupancy 14.58 per cent of beds at Altnagelvin are 'COVID-19 occupied', 79.59 per cent are 'other occupied' with 2.33 per cent capacity remaining: 3.50 per cent are 'awaiting admission' according to the latest data.

The South West Acute Hospital in Enniskillen is running at 8.43 per cent over capacity.

Three of eleven (27.27%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin are being used to treat COVID-19 patients; seven (63.64%) are occupied by patients with other conditions; and one (9.09%) is free.

Three ICU patients in total are being ventilated - one is a COVID-19 patient and two are non-COVID-19 patients.
