Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate falls to close to 100 per 100,000 mark

The seven-day coronavirus rate in Derry and Strabane has fallen to close to 100 per 100,000 and is at its lowest point in over four months.

Between January 21 and January 27, there were 160 confirmed positive cases of the virus in the district giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 106.2, down from 117.5 yesterday.

The last time Derry and Strabane was recording a lower prevalence of coronavirus was over four months ago, on September 22, when the rate was 85.6.

The lockdown restrictions imposed from Boxing Day continue to have an impact. However, transmission needs to be suppressed much further to get to the single digit figures that were being recorded at the beginning of September 2020.

Derry and Strabane is today recording the lowest coronavirus rate in the six counties after Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (383.3), Mid Ulster (349.1), Newry, Mourne and Down (235.3), Antrim and Newtownabbey (218.7), Belfast (192.2), Mid and East Antrim (188.3), Fermanagh and Omagh (164.3), Lisburn and Castlereagh (155.7), Ards and North Down (116.9) and Causeway Coast and Glens (111.6).

The average prevalence rate for the north over the same seven day period was 216.1, down from 225.6 per 100,000 yesterday.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 26 and 27 was 27.

In total 10.619 people have tested positive in Derry and Strabane since the start of the pandemic last year.
