Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate rises but prevalence locally is still below average

The seven-day COVID-19 case rate in Derry/Strabane rose from 165.3 on Wednesday to 181.2 this afternoon although it is still below the average for the north, according to the latest data released by the Department of Health.

Between December 10 and December 16, there were 273 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 181.2.

Ards and North Down (79.6), Belfast (129.8), Lisburn and Castlereagh (140.5) and Antrim and Newtownabbey (173.1) all posted lower rates than Derry/Strabane.

Six areas are recording higher rates than Derry. These are: Mid and East Antrim (269.8), Newry, Mourne and Down (242), Mid Ulster (202.7), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (206.9), Causeway Coast and Glens (204.5) and Fermanagh and Omagh (196).

The average for the north is now 187.6.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between December 15 and December 16 was 56.

In total 7,573 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
