Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate rises slightly for first time in weeks; Causeway Coast and Glens now has lowest prevalence

The seven-day coronavirus rate per 100,000 in Derry and Strabane has risen slightly for the first time since it started a consistent daily decline over two weeks ago.

The district now has the second lowest SARS-CoV-2 prevalence rate in the north.

Data released by the Department of Health today show that between January 15 and January 21, there were 253 confirmed positive cases of the virus in the district giving a seven day rate per 100,000 of 167.9. This was higher than rates of 158 on Thursday and 165.9 on Wednesday.

However, this is still as low as the prevalence rate has been in some time.

Derry and Strabane is now recording the second lowest coronavirus rate in the six counties. Causeway Coast and Glens now has a lower rate of 161.5.

Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (536.8), Mid Ulster (454.9), Newry, Mourne and Down (336.9), Antrim and Newtownabbey (281.8), Fermanagh and Omagh (249.9), Mid and East Antrim (241), Belfast (239.7), Lisburn and Castlereagh (188.7) and Ards and North Down (180.3) all have higher rates than Derry.

The average prevalence rate for the north over the same seven day period was 294.1 per 100,000 - marginally lower than the figure of 295.6 posted yesterday.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between January 20 and 21 was 45.

In total 10.507 people have tested positive in Derry and Strabane since the start of the pandemic last year.
