Derry/Strabane COVID-19 rate rising as Fermanagh and Omagh overtakes Mid and East Antrim as worst affected district

The seven-day COVID-19 case rate in Derry/Strabane rose from 177.2 on Friday to 193.8 this afternoon. It is just below the average for the north which is 194.9, according to the latest data released by the Department of Health.

Between December 12 and December 18, there were 292 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 193.8.

Ards and North Down (87.6), Belfast (132.2), Lisburn and Castlereagh (151.5) and Antrim and Newtownabbey (181.5) and Causeway Coast and Glens (178.8) all posted lower rates than Derry/Strabane.

Five areas are recording higher rates than Derry. These are: Fermanagh and Omagh (258.5), Mid and East Antrim (239.5), Newry, Mourne and Down (237), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (236.3) and Mid Ulster (230.5).

The average for the north is now 187.6.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between December 17 and December 18 was 57..

In total 7,674 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
