Derry/Strabane posts fourth lowest COVID-19 rate in the north

The seven-day COVID-19 case rate in Derry/Strabane is now the fourth lowest in the north, according to the latest data released by the Department of Health.

Between December 8 and December 14, there were 256 positive coronavirus cases in Derry and Strabane giving a seven day rate of 169.9.

Only Ards and North Down (56.6), Belfast (111.7) and Lisburn and Castlereagh (132.9) posted lower rates on Tuesday.

Whilst the local incidence rate of the virus is not falling by much it is rising elsewhere.

Seven areas are now recording higher rates than Derry. These are: Mid and East Antrim (300.1), Newry, Mourne and Down (215.3), Mid Ulster (197.3), Causeway Coast and Glens (190.6), Armagh City, Banbridge and Craigavon (187.2), Fermanagh and Omagh (178.9) and Antrim and Newtownabbey (173.8).

The average for the north is now 174.9.

The daily change in the cumulative number of patients with a positive test in Derry and Strabane between December 13 and December 14 was 38.

In total 7,486 people have now tested positive for the illness in Derry and Strabane.
