‘Doughnut’ drivers urged to desist

A Derry councillor has urged ‘boy racers’ using quiet back roads near Creggan to perform ‘doughnut’ manoeuvres to desist before someone is injured.

Evidence, in the form of fresh tyre tracks, of drivers employing differential steering to dangerously spin vehicles through 360 degrees, appeared at two junctions on the Creevagh Road.

Sinn Féin Councillor Tina Burke said: “I would appeal for those involved in this practice to stop immediately.

“They are placing the lives of anyone travelling or walking along these roads in danger, not to mention their own lives.”

Colr. Burke said the practice was particularly irresponsible at this time.

“It’s the last sort of thing we need to see happening during the coronavirus pandemic when all our emergency services are being placed under serious pressure.”
