Four of eight patients on ventilators in Altnagelvin were admitted with COVID-19

Four out of eight ICU patients being ventilated at Altnagelvin were admitted with COVID-19, according to new data from the Department of Health.

The Department has provided updated figures for coronavirus admissions to Altnagelvin.

Three new admissions were recorded: one of a woman aged over 80 on Saturday; and two on Sunday - a man in his sixties and a woman aged over 80.

There were no reported admissions on Monday.

At midnight on Monday 74 patients were being treated as COVID-19 inpatients across all Western Trust hospitals.

This is as low as has been recorded since December 12.

Five of 12 (41.67%) ICU beds at Altnagelvin were being used to treat COVID-19 patients; six (50%) were occupied by patients with other conditions and one (8.33%) was free.

Eight ICU patients in total were being ventilated - four were COVID-19 patients and four were non-COVID-19 patients.

In terms of general occupancy 14.67% of beds at Altnagelvin were ‘COVID-19 occupied’, 80.24% were ‘other occupied’ and the hospital had 1.20% capacity left in the system: 3.89% were ‘awaiting admission.’
