Further COVID-19 death reported in Derry and Strabane with 75 patients in Western Trust hospitals at midnight

Thirty-one people have now died locally since the pandemic began, according to the DoH's criteria.

Seventy-five people were in Western Trust hospitals at midnight last night.

According to a breakdown of general occupancy by hospital, Altnagelvin is now 22.57 per cent 'COVID-19 occupied', 70.53 per cent 'other occupied' with 6.90 per cent capacity still available in the system.

The daily COVID-19 dashboard shows that five of ten ICU beds at Altnagelvin are occupied with COVID-19 patients, which is 50 per cent of capacity. Two further ICU beds are being used for patients with non-COVID issues.

While the COVID-19 case rate per 100,000 people in Derry and Strabane remains the highest in the north it is continuing to fall.

Between October 14 and October 20, 1,009 people tested positive in the Derry and Strabane area giving a case rate per 100,000 of 669.7 which was down on the figure of 717.5 for the October 13 to October 19 period that was reported yesterday.
