How you can regain your focus once more for 2021

We are now well into the start of January, the beginning of a brand new year which usually brings with it renewed hope and optimism.

It’s a time when a large majority of people are attacking their new year resolutions, goals and targets but as we all know, this year has got off to a difficult start as we have found ourselves once again in lockdown due to the ongoing pandemic.

As if January resolutions aren’t hard enough to achieve as it is, everyone now has only the limited capacity to be able to do, or go after, the things that they may have said they wanted to at the beginning of 2021.

But will that be enough to make you stop? My answer is emphatically ‘No’.

There isn’t anything that is going on outside my control right now that will prevent me from setting goals and planning to work towards the impact and the life I want to live and have, and I would ask you all to do and think the same.

You are only ever defeated when you give up. If you have given up on a goal because of lockdown, it might actually be a good thing! How, I hear you ask?

Well, lets face it, if you have given up on something such as your goals, or they have been completely derailed in the space of two months because of lockdown, then there is a fairly high chance that what you thought you wanted, you actually didn’t.

Let me explain. So many times people set goals and resolutions that mean absolutely nothing to them. They say they want this or that only to find themselves back at square one again come February and 2021 is no different. If you have already given up on the idea of success or the dream you had just two months ago, then it’s a high possibility that you didn’t really want it anyway.

‘Set goals that you truly value and that are meaningful to you.’

Setting goals that are not high up on your list of values will leave you feeling frustrated. You will burn out quicker, you will procrastinate more often and you will also find yourself sabotaging results you do get faster because there will always be some type of inner conflict.

Or you may find, like a lot of people have already found, that you that haven’t even started yet or have completely stopped.

So how do you get back on track and regain focus for this year and any year? Well, assess exactly where you are right now.

Look at specific areas in your life that you want to improve or areas that maybe need to change so things you get to where you want to be.

Reassess your goals and ambitions and course correct when and where you need to while all the time asking yourself better questions. That way you will get better, more constructive answers.

Example 1: Will this goal dramatically improve my life or the life of others?

Example 2: Is this goal really meaningful to me?

Example 3: What am I willing to give up, in order to achieve this goal?

Example 4. Who will be impacted by me changing and going after the things I want in life?

Example 5: What are the repercussions for my life if I give up?

When we ask better questions of ourselves, we get better answers and we gain a sense of clarity and renewed conviction that can help us regain momentum.

This sets the wheels in motion again to follow through on what we said we would. How to really follow through and achieve, is simply a matter of desire and commitment and a willingness to change our habits, condition our minds and discipline ourselves to ultimately move us forward towards our definite chief aim in life.

I truly believe that we all have a reason why we are here but through life, social programming and conditioning and belief systems, it gets clouded or suppressed and so many never realise their full potential or what their aim in life is.

If that’s how you feel right now, then keep asking, keep searching. Do not let outside circumstances or other things that may seem like road blocks in your way be enough to stop you.

‘Action reduces fear and increases courage’ so take action again in 2021!
